Copying and Pasting

Highlight the cel or cells that we want to copy.

To copy

Press Ctrl + C, or,

Click Edit --> Copy

To Paste

Click Edit --> Paste, or


Press Ctrl + V

Highlighting cell (Selecting cell) (Activating cell)

Highlighting a cell = Selecting a cell = Activating a cell

Some methods to highlight cell.

To highlight one cell

When Excel starts, automatically a cell is highlighted (selected) (activated).

To highlight different cell

Use mouse to click at another cell.

To highlight a different cell below

Press downward arrow key

To highlight a different cell above

Press upward arrow key

To highlight a different cell on the right


Press rightward arrow key

To highlight a different cell on the left
 
Press leftward arrow key

To highlight a different cell one screen down
 
Press pageDown key

To highlight a different cell one screen above
 
Press PageUp key

To highlight a cell on the first column (column A)

Press Home Key

To highlight cell A1
 
Press Ctrl + Home key

To highlight the last cell in a column

Press Ctrl + End key

To highlight all cells in a column

Click at its column heading.

To highlight all cells in a row

Click at a the row headings.

To highlight all cells in a sheet

Click at the button located between row headings and column headings.

To highlight contiguous cells

Press left mouse button and drag the mouse.

To highlight contiguous cells to the right


Press Shift key and then press rightward arrow key.

To highlight contiguous cells to the left


Press Shift key and then press leftward arrow key

To highlight contiguous cells upward


Press Shift key and then press upward arrow key.

To highlight contiguous cells downward


Press Shift key and then press downward arrow key.

To highlight contiguous cells one screen down

Press Shift key and then press right PageDown key.

To highlight contiguous cells one screen upward

Press Shift key and then press PageUp key.

To highlight non-contiguous cells

Press Ctrl and then click at the intended cell.

To highlight contiguous columns

Click at a column heading and drag to another column.

To highlight non-contiguous columns

Click at a column heading then press Ctrl key then click at another column heading.

To highlight contiguous rows

Click at a row heading and drag to another row.

To highlight non-contiguous rows

Click at a row heading then press Ctrl key then click at another row heading.

To highlight all cells in more than one sheet

Activate a sheet then press Ctrl then click at another sheet tab then click at the button located between row headings with column headings.

To cancel highlighting

Method 1 - Click at any cell.

Method 2 - Press downward arrow key, or upward arrow key, or rightward arrow key, or leftward arrow key.

To highlight all cells from the currently empty cell to a non-empty cell below in the same column

Press Ctrl + Shift + Downward arrow key

To highlight all cells from the currently empty cell to a non-empty cell on the right in the same row

Press Ctrl + Shift + Rightward arrow key

To highlight all cells from the currently non-empty cell to a empty cell below in the same column

Press Ctrl + Shift + Downward arrow key

To highlight all cells from the currently non-empty cell to a empty cell on the right in the same row

Press Ctrl + Shift + Rightward arrow key


To select more than one sheet

Press Ctrl + click at the intended sheet.
